From Valve (the creators of Counter-Strike, Half-Life and more) comes Left 4 Dead, a co-op action horror game for the PC and Xbox 360 that casts up to four players in an epic struggle for survival against swarming zombie hordes and terrifying mutant monsters. Set in the immediate aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, L4D's survival co-op mode lets you blast a path through the infected in four unique “movies”, guiding your survivors across the rooftops of an abandoned metropolis, through rural ghost towns and pitch-black forests in your quest to escape a devastated Ground Zero crawling with infected enemies. Each "movie" is comprised of five large maps, and can be played by one to four human players, with an emphasis on team-based strategy and objectives.

It is recomended that you read ALL the tutorial carefully!


1.Install the game

Unrar it, and make sure that you have at least 5 GB free space. Go to where you unpacked it, and there should be a executable file, called setup.bat. Double click, press any key and wait for the game to install.



2. Patch the game for non-steam multiplayer

The newest update (24 feb. 2010) will upgrade the client from any version to 1.0.1.8. It is included in the torrent version, but if you don't want to download that, there are some separate links:

- Run l4d_master_upd_1018 patch and browse for the folder that contains "left4dead.exe"


3. Enable the console

Options->Keyboard/Mouse->Allow developer console, click on enable



4. Change your name

Changing your name via the console using the "name" command doesn't work with the l4d engine, so you will have to edit a file from the actual game folder. Go to the main folder (the one that contains left4dead.exe), there should be a file there named rev.ini. Open it with a text editor and go to line 89. It should look something like this:
